A review of Kayo ATVs shows that while they come off as some of the best values in the youth ATV industry, they’re not without their drawbacks.
They Kayo Jackal is the highest-performance sport model they offer, powered by a 199cc engine and a manual 4-speed transmission to help keep the engine output at maximum.
While the Kayo Jackal 200 top speed is 45 mph according to Kayo, a number of owners have reported reaching a top speed of 50 mph on this model.
Increasing Speed via Throttle Limiter
All Kayo ATVs, including the Jackal 200, are installed with an adjustable throttle limiter safety feature that limits the speed initially.
On the back of the throttle box of these ATVs, there is an adjustable bull nose screw. This is your throttle limiter, and it comes fully tightened to start.
To adjust the throttle stop, unscrew it counter clockwise. You may need to use pliers to do this.
The more you unscrew this, the more play the throttle will have, which will give you the full range of speed, acceleration, and power that this machine is meant to have.
Once you’ve unscrewed this to a satisfactory position, tighten the nut to hold it in place.
Assuming you’ve properly broken in the ATV, your Kayo Jackal 200 should now be able to reach its top speed of 45 to 50 mph.
Top Speed Dependent Upon Break-In Period
For all brand new Kayo ATVs, there is a strongly recommended break-in period that should be adhered to by owners.
It is advised that for the first 25 hours of use, owners should essentially take it easy with their quad and not attempt to reach the top speed.
This is important as both the engine and drive components are reliant upon this break-in period to eventually reach peak performance.
The top advertised speed of 45 mph will likely not be reachable until the Jackal 200 has gone through this break-in period, and failure to properly break in the quad may result in it never being able to reach its top speed.
Kayo Jackal 200 Not Reaching Top Speed
If your Jackal 200 was properly broken in and you’ve loosened the throttle limiter, but it still fails to reach a top speed of at least 45 mph, there are a few ways to attempt to correct this.
Replace the sprockets. A common process for adjusting speed and power in Kayo ATVs is to replace the front and rear sprockets.
If you’re looking for more top-end speed, move to a smaller rear sprocket and bigger front sprocket.
But just know that there’s a tradeoff, as doing so will also decrease the Jackal’s acceleration.
Ensure the tires are fully inflated as speed will lag if you have underinflated tires. The recommended tire pressure for most ATV tires is between 5-6 PSI.
Check the spark plug. If your spark plug is fouled or wearing down, it may not be igniting fuel in the engine properly which can result in a lower top speed for your Jackal.
If necessary, replace it with a high performance iridium spark plug.
Conclusion
Though the Kayo Jackal 200 top speed is reported as 45 mph by Kayo, in peak operating condition this model may be able to reach upwards of 50 mph.
While it is not as fast as some of the more popular sport ATVs, the Jackal’s speed is still impressive when considering the size of the engine.
