For folks looking to make sure their ATV stays in the best possible condition while not in use, you need to buy and use an ATV cover.
Not only will an ATV cover save you time cleaning it up, it will also save you money by keeping your quad out of the shop.
And this is NOT just if you store your ATV outdoors.
While it may seem counterintuitive, covering an ATV stored indoors is highly recommended if it won’t be used for more than a few weeks, and I’ll show you why later on in this guide.
But there are alot of ATV covers out there, so for now, let’s get to narrowing down the best covers you can buy in 2023 so you can be sure you grab the right one.
What To Look For In An ATV Cover
There are five key features you want in an ATV cover to be sure it’s actually going to do the job:
- Durable material like heavy duty polyester that will stand up to the weather and general wear over the years.
- An external coating on the fabric, such as polyurethane coating, to make it either water resistant or waterproof and UV ray-resistant.
- Breathable with built-in vents to allow air circulation, which prevents moisture and mold from forming underneath and overheating on hot days.
- Attachments like straps, buckles, or drawstrings so you can secure the cover tightly to your ATV so it stays in place during windy conditions or bad weather.
- A good size and fit so that the cover is snug on your ATV and doesn’t leave space for critters, the wind, or debris to get in.

- Kawasaki Brute Forces
- Yamaha Grizzlies
- Honda Ranchers
- CFMoto CForces
- Polaris Sportsmans

- Can Am Renegades

REVIEWS SCORE: 4.6 of 5.0 Stars
WARRANTY: 3 Years
MATERIAL: 300D Polyester Fabric
WEIGHT: 6 Lbs
The Badass Moto Ultimate ATV Cover is as durable as they come, and is offered in three different sizes currently – ensuring you can find the perfect fit for any ATV model.
These covers are made from rip-resistant 300D polyester fabric with taped seams.
This material is heavy duty, and you can tell simply looking at it it’s going to hold up well outdoors in harsh environments.
And the material is truly waterproof, not just water resistant like some models. Not only will it keep your ATV dry in harsh weather, but the covers hold up well to rain, snow, and sun.
These covers also include side ventilation, reflective stripes, and zipper panels so you can quickly access your gas tank, console and handlebars while covered.
Adjustable wind straps enable you to tightly secure it to your ATV and keep it in place despite the wind.
Pros:
- Truly waterproof
- Two shielded side vents allow air circulation while still keeping your ATV completely covered
- Stands up well to the elements and will last multiple years
Cons:
- Fits snug enough that accessories like handlebar mirrors or LinQ system boxes will not fit under it.
- Side zippers are prone to failure over time from the elements.
- Compatible for towing, but will not hold up to high speeds.
#2 – Tough Cover Premium ATV Cover
PRICE: $30 – $60
REVIEWS SCORE: 4.7 of 5.0 Stars
WARRANTY: 18 Months
MATERIAL: 600D Marine-Grade Fabric
WEIGHT: 6.6 Lbs
Tough Cover offers three levels of ATV covering – Basic, Premium, and Extreme.
Each of these covers are about as high-quality as it gets, but the Premium level cover is the best overall cover for the money.
The Premium cover is made of 600D marine-grade fabric, which is double-stitched to make it nice and thick and incredibly tough.
This cover is one of the heaviest you’ll find, making it as tear-proof and waterproof as it gets and ensuring it stands up to any weather and wear over the years.
It also includes ventilation slots to prevent moisture buildup on the underside and to enable some airflow to prevent the cover from becoming an oven on hot days.
It makes for the best fitting covers you’ll find for the most popular ATV models, and once you get it on there’s a drawstring so that you can tighten the cover securely around your ATV so it stays firmly in place.
Pros:
- Offers the best universal fit for the most popular ATV models
- Water and UV-Ray resistant
- Heavy, tear-proof material is long-lasting and stands up to wind, rain, snow, dirt, dust
- 18-month warranty
Cons:
- Drawstring not as strong as buckles/straps might be
- One of the biggest covers, may not fit some ATV models as snugly as you’d like
Best Budget Covers:
#1 – LotFancy All-Weather ATV Cover
PRICE: $25 – $30
REVIEWS SCORE: 4.6 of 5.0 Stars
WARRANTY: 1 Year
MATERIAL: Oxford Cloth & Nylon
WEIGHT: 3 Lbs
Like each budget cover here, this cover is attractive because it’s priced so low. And you get what you pay for, but this is the highest-quality “cheap” cover I’ve found.
It’s made from 300D heavy duty nylon material with double-stitched seams, making it waterproof and able to withstand harsh weather.
That said, the material is more lightweight than what you’ll find in higher quality covers that are twice the price. It does still protect well against the weather and UV rays, but the color may fade from the cover faster.
This cover also offers two air vents so your ATV gets some air circulation underneath to prevent condensation and mold.
There is elastic hem at the bottom of the cover along with a buckle to help secure it tightly to your ATV, so the wind should never be a problem.
Pros:
- Will keep your ATV dry
- Material won’t rip or degrade from the elements
Cons:
- The material is not as heavyweight as more expensive covers
- The cover material will fade from the sun within a year or so
#2 – Tokept ATV Cover
PRICE: $20 – $30
REVIEWS SCORE: 4.4 of 5.0 Stars
WARRANTY: 30-Day Amazon Returns
MATERIAL: 210D Polyester & Oxford Cloth
WEIGHT: 1.6 Lbs
The Tokept ATV Cover is one of the cheapest options you’ll find available that will still get the job done.
The material is thinner than that used in some of the other more heavy-duty covers on this list, which makes it a little more susceptible to the elements if storing it outside.
This cover does offer an elastic band and a windproof buckle, so you can really secure it snugly to your ATV.
However, this cover is not as water resistant as claimed on the listing, and reading through the user reviews will confirm that.
If you’re storing your ATV outside and using this one, some water will find its way through. And the sun will do a number on the color.
This cover is best used for those who are storing their ATV inside or under some sort of outdoor cover, but who want to be smart and keep dust and dirt out at a minimal cost.
Pros:
- One of least expensive options
- Adjustable windproof strap with buckle
- Stands up well to water, snow, dust and wind
Cons:
- Water resistant but some water will find its way in during heavy rain
- Thinner material than some would prefer
- Sun will fade the color in about a year’s time
What Sense Does Covering An ATV Stored Indoors Make?
As mentioned earlier, it’s important to cover your ATV regardless of where you store it.
“But Jamie, I store my ATV in the garage or my storage shed when I’m not using it. I don’t need no stinking ATV cover!”
Fair point, but when you go and run your finger across the other stuff you store in your garage or storage shed after a few weeks…what do you see?
A bunch of dirty dust on your now dirty finger, that’s what.
“Who cares? I get my ATV dirty all the time, what’s a little dust? I’m not spending my hard-earned $$ on no bleeping ATV cover I don’t need!”
You see what a little dust on your finger led to there? It led to a dirty mouth.
Just as a little dust on the outside of your ATV indicates other dirty parts and components…which can lead to mechanical issues and shorten the life of your ATV…leading to more bleeps.
So what’s the bleeping point of this fable? You need an ATV cover, regardless of where you store yours.
And all you need is one of the cheaper covers for protection indoors, with around $30 being a small price to pay to ensure your ATV fires right up next time you’re ready to use it.
Best ATV Covers – Frequently Asked Questions
Can I tow my ATV with a cover on it?
You can, and you’ll find that many ATV covers are labeled as trailerable, indicating that the cover should fit snugly enough to be used while towing your ATV on a trailer.
That said, you’ll want to use one of the highest quality ATV covers when trailering, as those are the only ones that have a chance to withstand the winds whipping them around at high speeds.
And even then, most ATV covers simply aren’t durable enough to stand up to trailering an ATV on a highway at high speeds as the wind will shred them eventually.
That goes for the more expensive ones labeled as trailerable as well.
So while there are definitely benefits to covering your ATV while trailering it, be prepared to buy a new ATV cover after the fact if you decide to.
Can I cover my ATV with a tarp?
You can, but a tarp is going to provide nowhere the same amount of protection as an ATV cover.
Tarps are not made specifically to fit over ATVs, and so even strapping them down to your ATV, there will likely still be spaces where wind, rain, and other elements can still get in.
And on the strapping piece, it can be a real pain in the neck to strap and unstrap a tarp to your ATV.
On the other hand, ATV covers are designed to be easy and quick to secure and unsecure from your ATV.
Can you store an ATV outside in winter?
If you don’t have an indoor area where you can store it, you can store your ATV outside during the winter. And many people do.
But it’s highly recommended that you install a high quality ATV cover to protect it from the elements if you’ll be storing your ATV outside in the winter.
Final Thoughts
In my opinion, every ATV owner should also own an ATV cover.
Whether it’s one of the higher quality covers or the budget covers depends on where you’ll be storing it and what type of weather you experience where you live.
Even those who store their ATVs inside should cover them if they won’t be used for more than a couple of weeks at a time.
